Next to the battery is this box. In it this is what I found. 2 pieces of cooper bent over on top of each other. They are hot with the key off. What is supposed to be there and what do you suggest I do to correct it. I am pretty sure this is not a good thing. smile

There should be an 80 amp circuit breaker there. It looks just like the red and green boxes to the left of it, but black.

Ok, it doesnt look like I will be able to fix that so it will work. Is there another type breaker I can maybe put inline, etc?

Don't mess with a substitute. That 80 amp breaker is the B+ feed for the alternator.

$5 bux sez someone tried removing it in the past and didn't have a clue; busted it. You unbolt the fusebox from the fender, flip 'er over; it's bolted in. I take it either your fuse cover or the label on it is missing?

I'd say it blew at some point and the PO bent them over to make continuity for a temp fix. Did something similar for a couple teens awhile back to help them get to a parts store for a replacement.

Remember to disconnect your battery, eh?

I have the cover, no decal. Are you saying it is salvageable? All I need to get is the original breaker and it will be good?

I am assuming then that the copper parts are part of the old breaker.

Yep, like Kewlynx said, disconnect battery, unbolt the whole fusebox and on the bottom of it you'll see how those contacts are bolted in.

Remove those contacts and install a new circuit breaker.

Yep, think of it as an oversized element wire in a fuse. 80 amps is quite a load by comparison.
