A system upgrade is pending for this evening (Jun 15). It is expected that all necessary changes will be complete by 6 am Jun 16.
Some time after 10 PM Central, there is a potential for brief site downtime.

Can I assume you've backed up the site using a relatively reliable cloning or backup software wherein if anything goes 'awry' you can easily get it all back up and running in an hour or so or does that exist for whatever we're running on (linux? what kernel/version are we running anyway?).
TIA for the work you're accomplishing.

Not to worry.
There is a backup server that is being configured.
The forum software is the last piece of the puzzle. It needs to go through a couple of extra steps as it also needs a back end database upgrade. It is just extra time and having the correct passwords....
Everything is running on Linux with apache, php and mysql. After the upgrade, everything will be up to the latest releases and security patches.

TIA for the work you're accomplishing. The server undergoes a full backup every week and an incremental backup (diff) every day. An hour for recovery is a bit aggressive, depending on the scope of the problem. The current server is a RHEL4 box. The new server is a RHEL5.2 or 5.3 box. The actual current kernel is in the 2.4 train, the new kernel is in the 2.6 train.

Thanks John & Joe That's good to know. Having recently experienced a failed disaster recovery due to a failed backup on montypics.com (thereby EVERYTHING i had hosted on that site) you can appreciate that I'm being a bit cautious. Not sure what dr options there are for linux based os' but w/ windows, the software available I can be up and running literally in under an hour from a total system failure/corruption hence my reference to that timeline.

The forum has been upgraded.
Please post up or send a PM if you find any problems.
The full server shift will take place within 24 hours; after this change has had a chance to stabilize and a database refresh done.

IE8 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> Header 'my home' thru 'calendar' is scrunched. Earlier I would click on some thread to do a reply and get some weird stuff. If I can capture some of it, will put here. Got some white folder to the left of the post icons on the left margin, and some kind of rating column on the right side.

The only thing I can find that doesn't work if the Active Topics button.
Control Panel replaces the Admin button.
The menue spans 2 lines and appears good in FireFox, Safari, and OmniWeb.
The earlier issue may have been while things were coming back on-line.
