can anyone tell me if a ve from a 70's wagoneer fit into an 86 xj? i'm sure it will fit under the hood but will it work with the trany w/o any mods done to it.

The trannys for a 4 banger and a six cylinder are different And not interchangable...if that is the question..

Probably meant V8..

The 70s era Jeeps featured the AMC V-8 engines (304, 360 and 401). Great low-end torque but heavy cast iron engines.

Most (Jeep versions) were equipped with 2-barrel carbs. However, there were AMC vehicles equipped with high rise manifolds that would accommodate a 4-barrel carb.

but those v8 amc are a direct fit for the older jeep with the 225 v6

In 73 or 74 AMC lengthened the CJ5 by about 3 inches in order to use the AMC V-8.
