I don't trust the 'sellers' when it comes to any of these incentives. I recently replaced a dual pack, there were government rebates involved, the AC company rep said at one point "Ya, but you get a rebate from the government so it evens out..." It takes away MY negotiating power. Until the dealers have to take in a quota of vehicles, I would not do it. $4500 toward the purchase of a new vehicle, add in higher insurance premium and monthly payments. My montero gets 15 to 17mpg, Even if the new vehicle gets 25 mpg... does that offset the increase in monthly payments? When I looked up my Chevy (2001 2500hd Diesel) they offered the same $$... against a gas F150 that got the same millage. Last I heard re: a local dealer, they were (and are) advertising heavily BUT do not know how the program will work yet, so they are taking you in the office and taking all the info...and they'll get back to you. AND add to that the PASS program here adding state money too, I just don't think I'm getting a deal. Even at $10.00 a gallon, gas is cheaper than a car payment.

It should be noted that since your radier is an SUV (light truck) that you should be able to qualify for the SUV - SUV exchange if the new one only gets 1 MPG better and more funds if it gets 2 mpg better. Additionally Chrysler is MATCHING the goverments voucher. So that $4500 could become $9000. And yes...that would apply to their Jeep line as well. (no I am not a Chrysler sales person...though I have been eyeballing my 89 Monti in a capitalistic way since the Chrysler announcement day before yesterday)

....Edmunds says the average sale price of a brand new car is $27,800, whereas the average price of a used car is $13,900. That's a savings of roughly $14,000 achieved simply by letting somebody else be the guy who buys the brand new vehicle!

Still want to be green? There are plenty of 3-year-old vehicles with excellent fuel economy. The technology hasn't changed much in the past few years. It's also a great time to buy used because cars and trucks are incredibly reliable these days. They can easily chug along for 200,000 miles with few problems.

So, you decide. Would you rather save $4,000? Or $14,000?

The CFC program will likely be dead in the water by this Friday, due to underfunding. Check the AP wires, folks.

What did you deside to do with your truck? I am still interested in that
brush guard if it's the right price.
