I'd pulled apart the door to replace the master power window switch module, and for convenience when taking the interior panel off, also unplugged the power mirror switch connector.
Both I and the owner have spent hours trying to plug it back together. It's just a regular plastic connector, 7 pins in two rows, similar to must be dozens or hundreds of others on various vehicles over the years.
It seems like the connector type is intended for many more than 7 pins, and is keyed for a slot that isn't used. I could describe the silly thing in exhaustive detail, but my best guess at the moment is that the connectors don't quite match up, and were forced together at the factory (the male end is slightly too wide for the female.) The manual provides pinouts but says nothing else.
Any advice? I mean, I know this problem sounds rediculous, but this isn't my first wiring harness.
Thanks,

I have an electical manual for a 97 that shows the plugs. Don't know if it is different from what you have. It is a 10 pin connector. They label it as R12 for in/out of the remote control mirror switch. I can scan it and either send or post it if it would help.

Thanks for pointing out the electrical manual -- I'd forgotten about that. Yeah, it's R12, on page 123; the plastic connector could accommodate 10 pins, but only 7 are present (see the x's in the diagram.) The trouble is just that the two haves of connector R12 won't mate. It's like they are actually slightly incompatible connectors, that a gremlin magically replaced while I was in the house!! Or that they were forced together at the factory. Lube is actually not a crazy idea ... and, duh, I should take some pictures <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Well if worst comes to worst its just wiring, use some connectors and go to town. Ive done it before with other things, usually when the replacement item has no plug or the wires are different.
