since you said you are perfectly geared for the freeway and since you probably use this as a daily driver (???) i would vote towards a second transfer case.

why?

you would only use it when needed.

plain and simple.

sure the initial cost is what probably scares people. but trust me when i say it's like nite and day...

and if you plan on sticking with the sport, you will even happier with the decision...

The second transfer case, just lowers low gear correct?

It's not an over under box by any chance?

Yes, the 2nd t-case is either 1:1 (regular driving) or 2.3, 4, 4.7 or 5.0:1. SO basically, your crawl ratio now, multiplied by one of those number, is your new gear ratios.
Also, you will have alot more gear options.
You can have 4.7 in the front box, and 1:1 in the rear, 1:1 in the front and 2.3 in the rear, or 4.7 in the front and 2.3 in the rear for super low crawling capabilites.

^^ just to clarify, the cheapest route is adding a 2nd box w/ native gears, so (stock) it's only 1-1, 1-2.3, 2.3-1, or 2.3-2.3. However alot of folks go ahead and havet he 2nd box regared for 4.7s so teh total reduction can be super low.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but one more advantage for dual cases (over auto) is that you can get low-range (well 2.3x anyway) in 2wheel (rear) drive.
This can be nice if you have front AND rear lockers, often teh rear locker alone does the job, and by leaving the front disengaged it makes steering easier (b/c steering w/ a front locker engaged can be a real bear).

I *believe* there is a way to wire in a switch to similarly do 2-lo w/ the A340H auto tranny too.

^ Need a twinstick set up set up to do the 2 wheel drive deal. Not that hard to do if you already have a reduction box.

But if you have 2 cases, and the d-shafts are connected to the 2nd one, couldn't you put Case #1 in Low range, but leave case #2 in 2hi (1x), yielding 2.3x 2wd?
(Note - I've never doen this or researched heavily since I have an A/T)

Yes, you don't need Twin sticks if you have dual cases. Of course if you re-gear the front case, then Twin Sticks are needed if you want to have the original 2wd low range.

Nah nah, what he means is the front box in low range, rear box in 2hi.
What you're thinking is front box in low, rear box in low, then yes, you would need a twin stick.

Does anyone use the second T case as an over under box/

They have 15 and 20% over drive and under drive boxes for 2 wheel drive.

That would be pretty cool for four wheel drive.
