Getting the Wheeling Fever
There was a recall of 1996 Geo Trackers because the gas tank construction was of poor quality and vulnerable to rupture if someone hit the car from behind. There were cases of vehicles being hit and then exploding (I think something like the old Ford Pintos). So a recall went into effect but only for one model (the 2-door or 4-door? Don't know) even though both models had the very same tank. In years after, the defect may have been corrected but I tend to be suspicious about things like that. I would want no part of any gas tank ever put on a Tracker. Where there's smoke, there's fire, you know? So, if I were you, and since it looks like you are not afraid of really rebuilding something, I would just take out the tank and replace with something really strong from another vehicle altogether and then even rig some type of cage around it since it is so close to the rear. I saw the story on this on television recently but it is probably also on line somewhere.

my '89 kick is only lightly modified.
i'm looking into lifting the tank and improving armor for it.
i've munched it slightly, and would hate to rupture it out in the middle of nowhere.
rupture and fire would be bad too.

'94 "tracker", with some parts from suzi the psychic.
other modifications made, with more to come.
some intentional.
suzitoo should get me fishing.

I was thinking about moving the tank up to the bed to be out of the way. My tracker is a 91 so it is older. I am not sure what will happen yet, I am first focusing on getting axles, once I have those we will see what comes next.

Tay from my lil bit of SAS'n experience good luck getting a leaf spring short enough to go under the front of your Tracker w/o having to build a 12in frame extension out the front of it.

I will need to add six inches for YJ leaves which will make a good winch plate mounting area!

Well you lucky <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> How long are the YJ leaves?

Yes, I can try. Sorry. I am not sure of the measurement right now but I will post it up as soon as I know.

The heat is what makes my answers all jacked up guys, I swear! The heat is frying my brain! Plus I hate my life so that probably influences this stuff also. I don't mean to take it out here.

Suzuki Sidekick = Geo Tracker. No difference besides badging and some interior bit, just like the Raider/Montero stuff. My 95 Tracker 2-door hardtop has Suzuki written all over it. There was a dude running a Tracker in Petersen's Off Road Adventure a few years ago, ran a new XL7 last time round.
