Body Damage is Cool
Planning to do my Nephew's truck. Leaking pretty bad. Plan on changing clutch while in there. Anything else. Is this a real difficult project on these trucks? Any advice is appreciated <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Definitely change the throwout bearing and bearing at the back of the crank as well; but those should come as part of the clutch kit.

OEM clutches are really good quality; but extremely expensive anymore and not so much better than the aftermarket offerings that its worth the huge price gap. Even Merlin talked me out of buying the OEM stuff because of price. The clutch kit I just put in is from O'Reilly and came with everything you'd need. It has a much softer pedal feel than what it replaced (enough so that I thought something was wrong); but no slipping on the open highway and has held up to a 118:1 crawl ratio.

One tip is to take a piece of cardboard and poke holes in it to put the bellhousing bolts in order on as you remove them. Many of them were different sizes on my '93. The '98+ Amigos are entirely different; but I'd imagine the same might be true and it will be tough to get them back in the correct location if they're laying in a pile.

That's all I can think of; but my experience is with a '93 and the 2nd gens may have their own quirks. Only other piece of advice is, since you'll have the tranny out anyway, now's the perfect time to install a Revolution 3:1 Gear Set. Good luck!

Truck has 130 k. Clutch is not bad. Should we leave clutch alone.
