Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just wondering if anyone ever had problems with rear end leaking fluid from the back were there is usually a removable pot on normal rear ends. If there is a way to patch it. I can pick big pieces of metal off.....

where is the leak, is it leaking at a bolt or round the carrier seam, or the fill or drain plug ?

its not from the drain or anything somewhere on the top or around where the bracket is for brake line. i was told welding it will just burn threw and just make it worse.

you may need to replace the whole rear end, then keep the axles and carrier assembly, drums etc, from spare parts or sell them, sound like the housing is rusting through, if the housing is still beefy, I would wire brush it, ( if any of the brushings stuff goes inside drain the gear oil and refill new ) make a patch out of thin metal and make a bond using JB WELD, the area must be clean for the bolding JB WELD after you have the patch bonded to the housing and it's dry I would use undercoating so the patch will not rust.hope this helps

Body Damage is Cool
Do you think the structural integrity of the housing is compromised? If so, buy a used rear end. No patch is going to hold the stress applied to existing unit.
To keep from having it happen again, don't drive on roads that have been salted <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
It sounds like you should get a different one by your description.
Photos would help.

Ill post back tomorow as i just cleaned it all up and couldn't see any leak but noticed maybe the vent was mostly pluged. Crossing my fingers that freeing this up might cure the problem.

What's this? Canadian rear ends are LSD? I must have the wrong fluid in mine as it doesn't seem like it, but it does kick sideways in the rain if I drop the clutch just so. Clarification on this issue would be sweet!

not all rearends are lsd it is a option why they make only 1 axle grab is anyones guess, I just meant if it was a lsd I want 1,, jack it up start it up both wheel go same then lsd if 1 goes forward 1 backward then not.
