Stock '81 starting running rough at 2,000 to 2,500 rpm recently. Idles smooth and seems to smooth out under hard acceleration. I would say the truck "surges" more than runs rough. I cleaned carb and checked all vacuum lines. Everthing is okay. Float level on carb is okay too. Changed fuel filter, plugs and air filter - no change. Suggestions? Maybe EGR failure?

Yep, clean your EGR valve; likely carboned up. Your roughness thru that RPM is pretty tell-tale.
I don't think you can get the EGR gasket by itself anymore; you'll have to pick up an intake manifold gasket and trim it off to use when you put it back together.
Let us know how it goes; welcome to the board!

Pretty much nothing left but the EGR valve. Let us know after cleaning it. If you don't want to buy the whole intake gasket, just buy some bulk material and trace/cut away. Ahh..Stanwood. Used to look out my backyard over to you from Whidbey Island. Eleven wonnderful years up there. Are you keeping cool right now? Drink a cold one at SeaFair for me. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

And another tip, in my experience, it's usually the pipe that goes from the EGR to the manifold that gets carboned up, not the valve itself. Check the 90? bend where it goes into the manifold.
