I understand mech mods have to be inspected/passed by a certified engineer in Oz to register the ride.
In this state, you are supposed to have the ride inspected if you replace more than one major component. Never happens AFAIK.
In my youth, I once helped build a bastard Mini (original) with a 500ish ci Olds Toronado drivetrain. And a 6-71 Jimmy with 2 4bbls sticking out the roof, which got crushed when a particularly vigorous wheelie flipped it over backwards. 1700lbs driver up and wet. About 700hp. We may have invented wheelie bars, removable for "street legal". No nanny state would ever approve that monument to excess. As my buddy and fellow criminal in the above crime, Erasmus Dooty said, "If mo' is good, hell of a lot mo' is mo' bettah". Except you had to park it if it rained...
We once put some mud tars on the back, and won a mud bogging event, by going so fast we just skated acrtoss the top, trailing two beautiful rooster tails of mud.
And in answer to the original question, Yep, there used to be some, before the trucks got too old, but the only real source of aftermarket support can be found in your bathroom, in the image right above the sink. Reference library is right here, but it has a crappy Dewey Decimal system...
Not responsible for advice not taken...

Who do you work for Bernoulli? I'm in Alice Springs now. Looking for a Gen 3 DiD Exceed ('02-'06). Pretty much non-existent in Alice. Will probably have to buy out of state & either fly to get it or have it shipped. I have seen a few for sale in Queensland... Back in Alice Springs? When did you leave MD? & how long are you there for this time?

Bernoulli, We're looking to be in Pomona June 2010 for the Australian 4x4 Gathering hosted by Mits 4wd club of Queensland. Hopefully I'll have a Paj by then...
Ray, We moved in May to Oz. Drove from MD to MT in the minivan for my parents/sis & then flew out from there.
We are here 2 years minimum. We're looking at 4 years as my oldest will be going into high school by then.
I wasn't going to "announce" it until I bought a vehicle & then I could post some Mits porn from overseas...almost bought a '94 Mits Delica...underpinnings of a Pajero on a van body. Had Super Select (Active Trac) & everything but the A/C was out & he wasn't willing to deal.
None

careful. i saw an F250 with what looked like railroad ties for body lift. this truck seriously had 12+ inches of BL, no suspension lift, and 42s.

My dad once told me about when he 4wheeled back in the 70s they used 4x4 wood blocks for body lifts and he was a total badass with his 35s
