3.4L just changed the valve cover gasket, cleaned the intake, cleaned the MAF. Now it is idleing at 1750. When it was cold it would start at 1500 then start climbing. Any thoughts??? I already disconnected the battery once and just let it sit. The Check engine light was on the first time, but not the second time after i disconnected the battery
Thanks

You may have a worn throttle body. My truck did the same thing after I cleaned it out. I inspected it more closely and found the the throttle plate has slightly worn the throttle body on the side opposite the cable and springs. The little bit of gunk that was in there prevented it from leaking much, but cleaning it "solved" that problem, so now air leaks around the plate. If I wiggle/push on the throttle I can sometimes get the idle to drop back down, but its kind of hit and miss.

For this reason, I don't recommend cleaning these things. I've never seen one that was dirty enough to cause problems. Ironically, the problem starts after we clean it.

Solution is live with it, replace the TB, or have someone like LC Engineering bore it out larger, which is about $300, but its still cheaper than a new one.

Double check your vacuum lines and intake hoses for cracks or leaks. Use a propane bottle or starting fluid to spray around and see if the idle jumps, also listen for hissing sounds.

well guys, looks like the problem fixed its self. The other day I drove it around after letting it sit for 24 hours and it was idleing around 1500. Then this morning it dropped to 1250. At that point I was thinking I could live with 1250 no problem. Then when I drove it home from work later today it went back down to 750. I didn't touch a thing. I wonder if there was still cleaner in the MAF? I did spray it pretty well and gave it 6 hours to dry. Thanks for the input anyways guys.

Sounds like the feedback loop recalibrated itself. For more info on that and more, read the tech articles at www.autoshop101.com Great stuff. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
