The 5 minute break allowed the bubbles in the foam to pop, thus allowing the ATF (not coolant) to regain the capacity to develop needed hydraulic pressure in your transmission. (my theory)

You know when you do a bad job of pouring a beer? You wait a few minutes for the foam to go away...If you attemt to drink the foam all you get is bubbles in your mouth and no much needed beer down your throat..nice analogy huh?
