Yes, I posted that a while back.

As far as "saving" folks money, that is not even in the scheme of this program. It's original motive was to get more fuel efficent, less polluting cars on the road while getting older more polluting ones off.

That's really funny! That was the tried and usually untrue method of calling something what it ain't long enough and loudly enough so folks believe that what it is.... is what it ain't.

A warm and fuzzy feel-good description can't cover the fact that the government now owns most of the domestic automotive industry and needs to make themselves look successful with your money or they'll be sorely criticized as being the lousy businessmen that they are. Now, they just might decide that they've been sooooo successful that they need to spend some more in order to keep from going bankrupt.

The sad truth was revealed in a conversation I recently had with a government EPA official (name withheld to protect the guilty) who when I asked how they intended to save the domestic auto industry if they didn't exclude imports from qualifying for the cash for clunkers money said "Well, we couldn't do that because it would be discriminatory". So, the result of all this will likely be a bunch of taxpayer money going to foreign interests. So much for us saving our own industry, eh?

Ah, well....... I don't think much of the domestic auto industry anyway...... and it's not my intent to turn this into a political post - so just take it as a bit of philosophical business rambling.
