Whats going to happen when these people realize they can't afford their payments? Will Uncle Obama bail their asses out with our tax money too? I have been seeing red all day from people praising his $hit all day over this. People will have their cars repossessed and then what? that clunker is looking pretty good isn't it? too bad its crushed. Eat it.

Auto salvage yards are pretty slick about getting around laws.
My neighbor owns a parts yard, he is crushing everything as fast as he can because the $$ is good... C4C is funding his bathroom remodel.

As far as "clunkers" polluting more... I know my 69 Dodge w/318 ran cleaner than the 96 F-150 I had with a straight 6 4.9, got better mileage too.

My neighbor owns a parts yard, he is crushing everything as fast as he can because the $$ is good... C4C is funding his bathroom remodel. Yes, the price has risen a little from the crash last fall, but he's probably gambling that the C4C frenzy will soon cause the metals market prices to decline as these cars come through the shredders and metal supply increases. I think that could happen, too - but if the auto execs (read that as US government) acts as I expect, they may use the temporary increase in vehicle sales as a sign that the auto industry is in recovery and project the demand to continue, building an increase of vehicles above demand once the dope money has been spent. So, in the short term, the metals market could go either way and there's a good chance it could rise more before it drops. The key question is "where is the tipping point?"..... and I don't think we're there yet. There's nothing wrong with booking a profit, but he may find himself restocking the yard at the high price next time. Frank

I just read that the CARS program is being suspended due to money running out. That was quick.

This is my favorite "Save the Economy Plan"
There are about 40-million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement, with the following stipulations :
1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty-million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage. - Housing Crisis fixed.
If more money is needed, have all members of Congress pay their taxes ...

I just read that the CARS program is being suspended due to money running out. That was quick. That is the best news I have heard in a very long time. This policy is ridiculous, and I am not oppossed to the current administration. Let's pay people to get deep in debt while simulatanouesly destroying easy to work on and inexpensive vehicles, all while people are out of work. You inadvertently raise the prices on used cars when people cannot afford higher priced cars. Brilliant!

If anything it was windfall (hopefully it's over) for salespeople. I stopped by to see what's going on. People are busy, salespeople don't want to negotiate. People buy cars for list price and get CFC, instead of negotiating and getting it for price close to invoice which you could easily do just a week or two ago when buyers definitely had upper hand. I'd say lots of people got suckered or at least didn't get a spectacular deal they might think they did.
