This was a nice surprise. I ordered a new fan for the Monti and got it at about 1/2 the cost that the dealer wanted. I figured it would be an aftermarket brand but would work "ok". Lookie what came yesterday!

Just curious why you guys felt you needed a new fan instead of getting one used out of a yard, or through one of the parts guys here. I myself have 2 ready to go out the door and I'm sure Russell has jsut as many out west.

For that matter, why not an electric fan conversion?

Hola MI-Mitsu. Thanks for the questions and they are valid ones.

I didnt go the JY route because the nearest one to me is about 45 min, they wont tell me their stock so I would be rolling the dice. Then if they had one would it be a gen 1? ( not sure if its interchangable) beyond that would it be in good order? Those "ifs" + the cost to drive up + 105 deg temps + the time = new one. I honestly didnt think to ask one of the folks here with a yard of Montys

I did install an electric fan and on my first outing overheated my engine. THEN I posted the overheat here and a very common comment I repeatedly recieved was basically, "there is no way the electric fan would have kept your rig cool enough in the temps where you live". So...back to the stock set up.

And a head gasket teardown this weekend due in part to the electric fan.

What else can I do but smile? Well I suppose there is the raginthegastankbiclighter option.

You are replacing the fan clutch also right? lots of times they go bad and people wonder why trucks won't stay cool. Fan will still spin just not fast enough.

No, not the fan. I have an extra in the shed from the yard.
One thing here in the moderate temp/ low ozone part of CA is that auto bodys don't rust and and plastic and rubber seems to last along time. This not needing a new car or total replacent of brake lines and calipers every 2 years, like I did when living in the "Rust Belt", helps with the pain of unaffordable houses and rediculous rent in most all of CA.
With more OEM Mitsu brand stuff showing up repackage, sooner or later, I'm gonna find MC994292 , rear U joints for V6 89-96 (without locker , I think) repackaged and sold at a more resonable price.
Since appearantly I can't get a variety of thicknesses of C clips for my Percision U joints( which otherwise seem to be good quality) I have to get Factory cause they come with said assortment of c-clips. I've been running quite awhile now with no rear driveshaft, trying to keep it below 50mph so my front axles might last.

I already have an electric fan.i got the fan because it was " new " at crazy cheap price.

Sure it cost more than the junkyard. but i do not have to pull it out and it is not used or dirty.

I got it for stock and now it occupies shelf space.

I may have wasted my money....but it sure feels good!

I love the smell of new parts in the morning!

and coffee..

Jim,

One observation about the out-west fans is that the plastic gets brittle. Of the many parts cars I've had, only one good fan that I felt comfortable passing on to another user. I would order new, too, if possible.

Russell
