I have a 1988 dodge raider with a factory mikuni carb and i'm looking to replace it with something else because i'm haveing trouble finding rebuild parts for this particular carb. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of carb is a good after market carb? Any and all suggestions would be helpful, thanks. Oh yeah its on a 2.6 4 cylinder.

your easiest would be a 32/36 weber carb.they make conversion kits to put it on.anything else would mean custom adapters.

I understand that the 32/36 Weber is a great conversion. It worked wonders when I put one on my old VW bus in place of the two single barrel Solex (I think they were Solex).
The only problem is that here in California the Weber will not pass the smog check simply because it is not original equipment. It may burn cleaner and run better, but it's not original.
Alabama may well be more lax in it's inspections, so the Weber might be alright there. If it is, I'd go for it in a heartbeat.

A few other options besides another Mikuni or a Weber but far more involved... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> 1) Turbo 2.6 Starion Motor w/ harness & ecu 2) 4.3L v6 chevy motor w/ harness & ecu

I have had it with my carb. I'm taking everything off the manifold that has anything to do with Mikuni and trashing it. I have a local guy that will take a half inch thick aluminum or steel flat bar and drill it out to mount on the intake manifold with a gasket. Then I'm going to find a simple 1 barrel or 2 barrel carb with ele. choke and have him cut out for the throat and drill out for the two bolts. He'll wire weld the two mounting bolts for me as well. Total cost $50. I can or should be able to put any carb I want on this bucket of bolt. Even the smallest of carbs have at least one vacuum port, if not, I can have one drilled into the adapter plate and put a short tube in it. Any suggestions or questions? In Texas we have no required emissions for this old of a vehicle.

Scour the jy for something with a 2 barrel carb. The Weber 32/36 is popular, and when I worked in the VW biz, we were also the biggest Weber distributor in the Midwest.Sold them for everything. Course you'll probly need to rebuild it , hard to imaging a 25+ year old carburetor working perfectly. You're adapter idea is spot-on, except i would do aluminum before steel for heat dissipation.

You'll want a '83-'86 Ford Escort carburetor. I did it on my '88 Mighty Max 2.6 and never looked back. It's essentially a Weber, but cheaper. Get the Escort air cleaner too.

70's mikuni from a dodge colt.
simple, easy, looks identical to the montero carb but one major factor; no bull crap! no gadget box, no vaccum lines, no electric anything. I run one on my 87 and i have 3 70's colts. they're easy to work with and look like a factory carb because... well... they were! Swap your jets from the 2.6 to whatever carb you get since the colts only came with 1.6 and 2.0 engines.
