Ray do you think we can meet up with you guys some time late Saturday night if possible? On Saturday the 10th of October?

Ty,
I have an idea where we might be staying the first night,(Caruthers Canyon), for you to meet us may be somewhat of a problem.
It's doable, so if you have the "Guide to Ca Backroads & 4-wheel drive trails" you can see on page 113 where this is.
You might be able to meet us at the camp site in Caruthers Canyon (the road dead ends there). Take I40 to Ivanpah Road, past Fenner Ca, and follow the road to Goffs and on to the camp area, but this all depend on our leader (Ray) I'm just the guide.

Ray
That works for us . If you guy are going to be staying the first night,(Caruthers Canyon) We meet you there. I found how to get there on google maps.

The overall plan sounds good, I just do not know whether I'll be able to attend. I may join the group at Caruthers Canyon, too.

The road actually does not dead-end at the camping site. The road goes about half-mile of rocky trail past the camping spot and dead-ends in the creek that forms the canyon.

This is the road dead-end:

Past the dead-end, it goes as a hiking trail up to the mines.

Can't argue with you there, except the distance, maybe 1/4 mile, I didn't measure.

Here a picture of the site we stayed at

If you would like to down load a good set of way points go here.

I use EasyGPS software for my way point management. It can be found here.

Nice Michael! Didn't need the easygps software. Found one of the upgrades in Nat Geo Topo v4.5.0 is the ability import GPX data directly!

Nice John! Didn't know Charles had a download page much less his own webpage. Thanks for that resource! Now officially book marked!

Michael, I now have 3-4 different sets of way points for this trail so we (i.e. you ) should probably figure out which one you prefer to use. Then share that set with everyone else.

I also moved the list of current attendee's to the first post in this thread.

Last but not least, since we'll have more than 7 vehicles going I'll have to submit a Use Permit with the Nat Park Svc. Cost for the permit is free but there is a $50 administration/processing fee. I'll take care of that cost up front but please bring an extra $5-10 for me on this trip. The final amount is determined by the number of people in attendance.

TIA,

Ray

Thanks for the information Jon. Looks like they put a lot of thought and work into their waypoints.

Ray,
I like the way points form the Mojave Road Guide and the Wells books. So I'm going to use the Mojave Road Guide on the laptop, the Wells waypoints on my Garmin 7200 and the ones I got from Les on the Garmin 60CSx.

So the Mojave Road Guide waypoints are the ones everyone should use and get the book if you have not already, it's a good read.

Ok, so for those who want to plot the waypoints into their gps units in advance, we'll be using the waypoints from the 2 links above.

I'll be using my Nat Geo Topo software on my netbook and I was able to import the waypoints w/out issue. Let us know if you need help doing that. Can't guarantee I'll be able to get it to import into your gps but we can try.
