Well I ordered my shifter bushing from Marlin and tried to take the shifter off today but it won't come off. The book says I may need a special tool from Toyota to get it off but it doesn't show what it looks like or how to use it. Anybody have any tips on how to get to the bushing??

I use a pair of screwdrivers crossed; small mitts.

And yep, Toyota makes a special tool for this task.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
My transmission shifts just fine, but my transfer case shifter is very sloppy. Is there a similar fix for the transfer case shifter? I've always been able to make it work, but sometimes I feel lucky when I get it back in 2 wheel drive. My truck is an 88 22RE. TIA, Roy

Got it off. The bushing in question is so far gone I would have to be convinced one was there in the first place if I didn't already know it for sure. Thanks for all the info, very helpful. Next fun thing is about to begin after the shifter. I just bought a tubing bender and a new sawzall blade. Tops coming off and full rollcage going in. Anybody need a factory sunroof and rear slider, cheap?

We get folks looking for the factory sunroofs once in awhile. Post 'em in the FS section. Glad the tranny fix went well.
