this is a dumb ? but are you giving it any gas when you are trying to start it ? if you are you might be flooding it just a little, try this just turn the ket on but not all the way just to energize the system for about 2 seconds then turn the key and see if it will start with out giving any gas, then you can give a little gas. just a thought.

Today was rather mild in weather for Texas like 95f.....So I reluctantly made the effort to re-examine all the lines. I took off the intake and disconnected the charcoal box too. I happened to notice the clamp off........... on on line (closest to the radiator) from the charcoal box, but the tube seemed to be able to move easily with my hand.

I figured since I was on a roll I would dis-assemble the rest (intake also)for a thorough inspection. All the other lines were fine.

I then went (in another vehicle) to Advance Auto and ask for a pressure vacuum gauge....They looked at me like I was nuts. I commenced to fill them in on what was going on and the manager swaid that a faulty spark plug could cause p0171 as well as starting issues......

Fine. I bought 4 autolite dual spark plugs, gassket sealer, anti-seize and the electrical grease stuff for the top connectors of the spark plugs.

I took out the spark plug in bank 1 and it was dry but very very burnt on the plastic area and very gray in color on the spark side with obvious wear. The same for the other 3 but at least the gaps were still .44

After re-assembly (and battery re-connection) I also sealed off the air temp sensor on the rubber top of the K&N with gasket sealer vs. using Teflon tape for the threads.

Aside from struggling with the car alarm.......It Started Up Very Very nicely and idled extremely well.

Took it for a test drive for about 50 miles it ran excellent and guess what?????????????

NO CODES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check ur freakin' spark plugs!

Thanks Ya'll for all of ur help.<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Could have prevented buying a new o2 sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, starter, Idle controller, new battery ect......

But I prolly needed to get those in anyway sometime down the road (pun intended)! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again.

Mikey

glad it helped you but the plugs were the first thing i tried as well as cleaning the maf and changing coolant temp sensor and that was when i still had stock airbox, have since changed tps and fuel filter but no help...its not a big deal to me to have to crank it over two or three times but i dont want it to get any worse before i figure out what it is...thought about O2 sensor but thats alot to throw away when im not even throwing a code

Just an idea........

Check ur spark plugs again (gap, connection etc).....

And BTW certain plugs WILL NOT work on the sportages...at least as in my experience.

Good luck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Hey Catman 25,

U could have hit ur pcv when u were doing ur spark plug job (backtracking to when ur problem started).........

Just a thought that I got today after getting off of work....

Did u spray intake cleaner to see if idle changed at all (to locate leak)?

MAF sensor OK?

I know the feeling of being frustrated.....was almost going to go to the dealership.....cause I got so SICK of that code (like londhart was)..... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

And I do know that if u have some vacuum leaks the code reader will actually say "Vacuum Leak" like in the case of a missing gas cap.
