To start I need to say that I have no way of telling how hot mine runs, except for the idiot gauge. While on the HWY going up a hill I was in 3rd as the rpm's were climbing over 4000. I had to shift up cause it was sounding like it was winding out hard core. I don't remember ever even getting mine up to 5000 rpm. That's even in 5th doing 120kmh. It is over 4000rpm at that speed, but I really don't feel like pushing it any more. Sounds like it will explode..lol As for the temp, my awesome stock gauge is at the half way point all the time, no matter what speed. In town or on the HWY Do I have a heating problem?? The temps around here vary from mid 30's C, (low 90's F) and down. This is summer time hot as it gets heat...lol. I know you get a lot hotter than this. So then why am I getting so hot then? I also, the other day, coasted down that same hill (it's a long one) that I went up in 3rd on and had to shift up, and the temp never changed. i thought it would go down as I was coasting at about 90kmh with 1500 rpm roughly. hmmm...got me wondering.
Anyhow..That's my little tale.

I had a similar problem. Turns out it was the fan clutch. Give the fan a spin. If it spins quite freely, could need replacing.

My stock Sporty ran in 65-75 degree weather with a 500 pound load at 4000-4500RPM for 10 Minutes at a time, going 45MPH up every mountain for 600+ Miles in Alaska. The idiot guage never moved. I did run through half the oil though. Sorry to hear of your issues Nuke. Can't wait to find out what the cause is. I can relate to being irrate...

I'm completely done considering the fan as a possible problem, the fan isn't what should be cooling the engine at higher speeds, the fan is only for when you're slow or stopped. I have never had a heating-up problem going slow or stopped. It's only when going FAST so the fan should not even enter into the equation. Or are you going to tell me that when you are going down the freeway your clutch fan is blowing like crazy? I hope not for your sake...
Also, you guys who are saying yours never moves past the same mark on the gauge, first of all ask yourself if you are driving in 110 degree weather outside, because if you're in cooler weather then it doesn't matter, mine doesn't heat up either unless it's hot outside. Second ask yourselves if you have ANY idea what the actual temperature of your engine is... because most of you don't. The stock gauge will not go above the middle mark until 235 degrees or more! That tick below the middle where it normally runs, it will sit there anywhere between 180 and 230 or so. You could be running 220 or 230 all the time and you wouldn't even know it. So don't tell me your engine runs cool when you're looking at the dashboard temperature guage mmkay? Unless you're like Everet and you actually know what the temperature is lol... :P
Also I'm done with discussion about the water pump. Let's not beat a dead horse please. How do any of you know you don't have the SOHC water pump on your engine? Maybe it came with the wrong one stock from the factory and you didn't even know it! Maybe the dealer gave you the wrong one! Maybe aliens came down and put the wrong one on your engine while you were sleeping! See where I'm going with this? It's tiring.
Just for shits and giggles I'll say this again, the company makes a water pump for the SOHC and a different one for the DOHC, and the part number I have is the one for DOHC, not SOHC. Done deal. Also just for Dave, my fan is rated 1950 CFM which is higher than Fokion's and he doesn't have problems with his in Greece where he says it's pretty hot. Regarding your idea of putting the stock fan back on, here is something important to consider... NO electric fan will blow as many CFM as the stock clutch fan, however if the clutch fan is having to work to keep airflow over the engine WHILE AT SPEED, then there is definitely something wrong with the airflow across the radiator, as the fan should only be needed for going slow or stopped. just some suggestions, nuke...

Other than the temp it is running properly is it not? Reason I ask is because when the cat on mine was plugged the engine was working harder than normal and causing it to run hot.

New observation by what just happened to me, Nuke I just installed my body lift kit 1 3/8" and took my sporty around the neighborhood to check the tire clearance and I drove about a mile but without the front bumper installed and guess what for the first time my sporty almost hit half way on the temp gauge, I installed the original bumper back on after cutting out part of the black top "Reinforce beam" so you can get it all the way in and bolt the 4 12mm bolts and guess what the temp went back down to almost a hair on what it usually was, well it's not on the same spot but my guess is that those few holes on the bottom of the bumper are directing air to the bottom of the radiator and somehow it makes a big difference on the cooling of the engine, (placement)of bumper, correct me if I'm wrong but I think you changed radiator and bumper at the same time? Well hope all is well and keep on sporting.

That's why I like tube bumpers...
It sounds like something is blocking air flow, or you have incorrect pressure.
