My stock Sporty ran in 65-75 degree weather with a 500 pound load at 4000-4500RPM for 10 Minutes at a time, going 45MPH up every mountain for 600+ Miles in Alaska. The idiot guage never moved. I did run through half the oil though.
Sorry to hear of your issues Nuke. Can't wait to find out what the cause is. I can relate to being irrate...
