Getting the Wheeling Fever
First I apologize if this has been covered in the past, but I'm being lazy and don't feel like digging through hundreds of threads (feel free to chastise as you will).

My question, to which I'd like any all input, is simple - I'm looking at the 1st generation Montero and Isuzu Trooper. Which, in your opinion, is better and why?

Whichever I decide on, that's it! I'm committed to that model from here out (I'll look for used "junkers" that can be picked up cheap for spare parts). I like both, and I've done a lot of reading that goes back and forth as to which is the better vehicle.

One thing I've noticed, living in the midwest, the Troopers seem to be more rust prone, however there aren't a lot of Troopers in this area and even fewer Monteros so I can't really say with certainty how accurate that observation is.

So feel free to speak your mind, call me lazy, whatever you like, but your input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
HBinKC

I've had four of the Gen1 MMC 4X4s and my son had a trooper for a while. I think he would agree that the Montero/Raider is superior for our uses. The trooper is much larger and heavier, so it all depends on your needs. I'd hold out for a V6. More power, more range, better mileage.

Depends on the Trooper. I had one that was my second favorite vehicle ever, 6 door, 5 speed and it took me everywhere, but the owner before me had work done, not only did it have a steel block and an aluminium head, the garage had over tightened the head bolts to the point they mushroomed the head... It's all a crap shoot. Both are great trucks.

You say "1st gen Monty " ... then 'just' the word Trooper ..???? ........ what year Trooper would help .. very different trucks the Troopers are by year .. Last of the 1st gen V6 Box Trooper auto are real good ...Some good GM parts and the good of the Japanese auto makers .. Lots of cool parts to swap back to a 1st gen Monty from later Montys ..

Any all break heads ...sigh ...

SWB monty for me ..

The Troopers just had more changes ware parts will not cross to other years of 1st gen .. I'm sure theres better guys on here that know Troopers better then I do ... If you get the right motor and trans your good ... Get the wrong not so good ...

Mitsu most parts cross in 1st gen and lots of truck parts work too.. Cool seats and lsd in later Mitsu...Easyer for parts for "me" anyhow ..Lots of cheap unloved Dodge/Mitsu stuff around this part of the world ... Turbo motors plundered from sports cars ... so on ......People in Mitsu forums seem to be nicer then most ..

Dig around "Rockauto" some aways helps "me" so see what fits what ...says alot about a vehicle to me

IMHO
