So my stock manifold is going to fall off the head soon, no way around it. I don't want another cast piece of crap if I'm going to have to replace it. I also can't justify the price of one of those wildcat or genie headers from Oz. So here's what I might try if I'm not proven to be a complete idiot right here and now. Over 5 years ago when the header was still a hot topic, Randy from solomiata.com stopped in and put forth that a 1.8l miata header would fit with a little port matching and a couple holes drilled. These headers are around $100 USD shipped to the states on ebay, and tend to have 4-2-1 setup with 2.25 or so outlet, and bungs for both O2 sensors. I doubt the thing will physically slip right into the sporty, just because that would be waaaay too easy. I was thinking that with a little bit of creative carnage I could get it to sit right in the car, and I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with opening up a can of die grinder on the header, exhaust ports or anything else for that offends me in the least. Any input on this, insults, death threats or otherwise are welcome as I've been mulling this over for a while and need opinions. Thanks in advance.

The only bolt on would be a stock early sportage stainless header. With a little work on the collector, they don't look to be too bad. If you replace with a miata header, some grinding is in order but I have talked with a guy that has done this and he said he noticed the difference immediately. Only thing is, you may have to have a bung welded in after your second cat in order for your computer to see that the cat is working. Keep us posted if it is what you decide to do. Take and post pics of the process. I average around 18 per gal. I will post pics as soon as I can. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Original thread is here: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.p...true#Post443837As far as I can tell a "BP Miata 1.8" is from '94-'97 or so. That is one of the things I have to nail down before I order or I'll be up the creek. I'm also thinking of buying a decent high flow catalytic converter to nix my P0420, and 2.25" pipe all the way back, with a quiet but free flowing muffler somewhere in the middle, as the rest of the exhaust is well past its prime. My concern with the high flow cat is that it may not be efficient enough to kill the code as it will be a fair distance away from the exhaust ports and may not get sufficient heat to work as it should. On a completely different tangent, has anybody considered making a snorkel out of a turbo piping kit? Cheap, cheap cheap on ebay, with elbows and clamps and whatnot, in sizes up to and including far larger than anything you'd need for a 2.0l. I'd be all over this if I didn't have plenty of other things to address before I start modifying my perfectly functional intake...

This is very interresting. Did you compare exhaust manifold gaskets, meaning, lay the sportage gasket over the miata gasket to see the difference?(if the gaskets are cheap...) I would love to see a picture of that...

Project that pretty much failed.
Lots and lots and lots of pin holes like they all predicted.
Oh well............
