Consider that legend has it, the original BFG Mud Terrain (and subsequent patter changes) were field tested at Tellico. And, they have seen a lot of Baja duty. The tread pattern is fairly open. But, you are speaking in subjective terms. I have not experienced a problem with them in mud in southern Cal....
