I learned to drive 40 miles from the dunes, so I was there every weekend. My jeep started out with stock 245'sXwhatever. After I learned to air them down I was pulling people out like it was going out of style. Now I have 33X12.50's and unless I am driving more than 10 miles (dirt roads around my house for a few miles) I'm always down around 8-10 PSI. Not only is my traction off the wall, but I get 2-4 inches of super soft travel that soaks up all the wash board and small rocks.

The one thing I would recommend before a lift or a locker or anything, is learning how to air down your tires and not blowing a bead.

Fortunately, I have insurance for a blown bead with a cheap built OBA with a stock sanden and I have a good high lift.

Personally, I find low-range in sand to be more of a problem. 4x high is much better choice of gear range. You need speed, not low end torque...

We've both worked out what works best for our Jeeps. Neither of us air down, or need to. Mine in normal 4x4 is fine, hers is better off in low range - It can overheat her tranny too easily in straight 4x4. Neither of us has gotten stuck or had an issue the way we're using them now. Knock on wood - the day I don't take mine I'll be walking back to get it to pull her out! But not yet. As an aside, we had a new tire mounted tonight, and it looks like her oil pan has taken a beating from the axle - guess she's got it articulating pretty well in Uwharrie! My new BFG KM2's are in - EXCELLENT. I am looking forward to playing with them! I'll get them on Thursday. Old meats paying for the mount and blance - considering they've only got side lugs left, not bad.

She's down there a lot. There is no good place to fill tires back up, but really no need for her to air down for the ride. The wheelbase on the XJ is long enough. I just can't be bothered myself. If I want to haul someone out I just dig in my tires and winch them or give them a tug if they're not down to the frame. I'm locked front and rear - pretty easy going for me. I've had to use the rear locker twice on the beach, but other than that I can usually get by w/out 4wd.

They're on! Love the tread pattern. If anything they're a bit light on the side biters, but I can live with that for $80-90 less per tire. Uwharrie in October....

It's the flatter ones that ate my side steps a few months ago...They were pretty steeply slanted though. These tires look like they should be loud, but actually they're not even as loud as the swampers. Liking them so far. Easy riding on the beach today (8-10' surf from Bill yesterday afternoon - Went out with the Boogie Board - Some POWER behind those rollers!). Any reports on how well they wear?
