Please help... My 90 3.0 starts and runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. It will sart immediately back up just to go dead again... I have replaced the following: alternator, battery, cables, and ECC relay... Its getting expensive and frustrating!

Any error codes or check engine light (make sure the bulb's not burnt out)?
Any recent service history prior to this problem occurring?
Perhaps a clogged fuel filter?

Have no fear, I'm sure someone who's smarter at this than me will chime in soon. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />

If it dies as you release the key mAke sure you have spark in the run position / power to the ignition.

What is the tach doing when it dies?

Yeah, kinda sounds like a clogged fuel filter or a fuel pump that's not up to snuff. [Linked Image]

It's 'cause y'all live in Tennessee. It just has Big Orange fever. Nuthin' sucks like a big orange...

I'm with Kevin. Does it run after you go back to on from start, or does it just crank and die?

I'm guessing the FI control relay is bad. It has seperate on states for start and run. Start mode is ign sw controlled, and run mode is ecu controlled. The run mode may be bad.

It runs for various lengths of time after it starts.... After it starts it idles up I hear a click under the dash and it goes dead just like it runs out of fuel... Where is this FI control relay you spoke of fasteddy? Is it the same as the ECC relay which I have already replace?

No issues mechanically up until this point... Just wouldnt stay running one day! I changed the fuel filter not long ago and have good fuel pressure!

I had a MPI relay go bad. Driving down the highway and "click" ( i couldn't really here it) ...dead.
I got a bad ECU code <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.
After installing my spare ECU and still nothing. Just took a lucky guess and pried the can off the relay and it was all green with corrosion.
Diamantes and Sonatas use the same relay so check the yards. I think the relay is like $75 from the dealer.
