So long as you stick to 37"s or smaller and use the stupid pedal judiciously you should be fine with a D44. Don't get me wrong, they can broken. But, they're tough enough for pretty rigorous duty. Good luck! Uhmmm... well.. I broke a stock 44 on 35's. Chromo's are supposed to be alot stronger, so I doubt i'll break anymore front axles. Seriously.... 37's... I'd want a v8. The performance difference on road was noticeably different between my old 35 inch X-terrains, and my new 36 inch tsl's . SO.... no bigger tires for me on this truck. I just can't see a Gen1 with a stock wheelbase, and stock axle configuration realistically going bigger than this. I'm certainly not saying it's impossible, BUT....... IF I were to build a Gen1 Bigger than what I currently have, I would want to comp cut the front at LEAST, and build a coil spring 4 link setup. It'd have to have a V8 as well.

I cant believe how difficult this parts finding event is going, after all your great input i really believe i want to go dana 60's all around now finding them is some what of a nightmare, between find some that looked like they've had better days to really expensive......... Rightn now it would almost be the same price to find an old used beater truck with the axles and buy the whole thing then to just buy the front axle alone.................... i'm thinking of hitting my local pick&pull this weekend but its been raining non stop for the last 3 days so yikes! (and for the comments about tires and power) i'm looking at slapping a 351 in the raider with a ford auto tran and transfer case up to it. and some big F...ing tires

IF you're a DIY kind of guy, buy a whole truck, and cannibalize the axles from it, then scrap it. IF you've got lots of money, and no time for DIY, go buy yourself some ProRock 60's.
