The trannys are different and not interchangable... But I think the transfer cases are the same.. Which would make the splines the same. But I MAY be corrected by someone that has ruint a case and knows for sure.

The Case for the 231's are the same and the spline count should be the same... But I'm not 100% sure. Luckily because the cases are the same, if the t-case input splines are different, you can swap input shafts. All you would need is a pair of good snap ring pliers.

Usually, Jeep XJ, TJ, and YJ 4 cylinder 231 t-cases have 21 spline inputs to match the AX-5 manual transmission. Six cylinder and 4 cylinders with automatics have 23 spline inputs, the only exception is the earlier models with a 4.0l and the AW-4 or BA 10/5 Peugoet transmissions. There are a couple different input lengths, too. As sunder said, the inputs are easily swapped.
