Well the starter is dead on the 2001 Trooper. Any tips tricks or suggestions for replacing it? I have the CD Manual. It just says to remove the three nuts off of the left hand exhaust connection at the manifold, remove the two starter bolt and remove the small heat shield.

I got under there and it looks like the exhaust nuts will not be too difficult, but even with them removed, it looks like I will only be able to move the exhaust pipe an inch or two in any direction (at the flexible sleeve section back behind the cat). Still seems like it may be pretty tight. What looks to be the worst part is the starter bolt on the side closest to the engine. I can't even see it - let alone see any way to get a socket on it! If you have done this job or have info please chime in. I have to get it back on the road in the next day or two.

Also, does anyone know if Hitachi was the original starter manufacturer on these? I found a re-built Hitachi for a good price. Thanks in advance!
