I'm taking out the tranny on the 2.6l engine. I'm having trouble with the upper bolts. Those of you that did this work before, what's the best way to get to these bolts? From top of engine or under? Thanks.

Automatic or Manual trans?
On the manual trans, we always dropped the cross members and had it on a trans jack, but let the transmission come down some so we could easily get to the top bolts from below.

Ah, so kinda tilt the tranny. Good tip. Keep it coming.
It's the manual tranny.

With a 2" BL you can pretty much reach them- been there . With no BL, they talk about long extensions stacked and with a wobbler. Took mine to a 1" BL and haven't had to do yet, so don't know there.... (fingers crossed) .

The tranny drop is the way to go. I like removing the tcase for better drop and access.

So if I do a t-case drop, what will I expect? Fluid flushing out? Gasket? (I bought a tranny gasket set, so might be ok.) Gear/seals to replace? Sorry for all the questions. I haven't dealt with tranny before.

Drain the fluid to make the t-case lighter. There is a procedure for removing the roll-pin on the shift fork. Basically, want to be sure you don't drop the pin into the t-case.
Do you have the FSM?
