During our shakedown trip with the Taiga Taco, I noticed the temp guage stayed just about the 1/2 way point. The camper weighs about 1060 lbs, airbags bumped up a tad.

I pulled the camper off, so the RV shop could redo the PO's installation (off kilter), and drove the truck unladen, with the same results; about a needle width past halfway.

I don't know if he put a 195dg t'stat in there; might've. Gets pretty dang cold down in Delta, where I got the truck from.

I also suspect he's mixed green stuff with the Toyota Red, as the truck had just under 42K when I bought it. I'll be doing a flush pretty soon; just wanted to know what you guys were lookin' at with your 3.4's, which is a new mill for me!!

Thanks!

Should sit about half way, maybe just a tad above half.

Same here, a needle width below half, and never changes from load or outside temps. The engineers got this right.

Do you have a scangauge? leave it hooked up and it will tell you your ACTUAL temps, not what the gauge is reading. Mine stays at half or just below as well.
Also, if red+green mix, you'd be in for a rad or HG failure... happened when my cousin sold his taco...

No scan guage. Thanks for the reminder tho- base auto hobby shop has a temp gun.

Yeah-----I'm flushing the system pretty soon, AND doing a leakdown check just to be on the safe side. That would SUCK to have a mill with 42K on it and an HG issue.

Mine sits between 1/4 and halfway.

Twice it has started to overheat, at about 3/4 of the way before I shut it down. Both times it happened after pulling my boat, and then sitting at the loading dock for 15 minutes with the A/C pumping and 90+ degrees outside. I'm thinking about adding an external trans cooler. I'd highly reccomend you doing the same. I think the trans is getting hot, and since the radiator cools the trans fluid through the coolant, it starts overheating.

Adam, the Taiga is a 5 speed, not an auto, FWIW, unless they've started plumbing them that way.

I'd have to be a little old lady with bad knees to buy a truck with AT.
