Getting the Wheeling Fever
this is my progress for the day. i could have done this faster but i was a little lazy. it has come together very well though. the marking of the vacuum lines helped allot with putting it back together. any way, i will have a picture of it running tomorrow. i should be leaving on the trip on wednesday. thats when the real fun starts. Cool, man. You're going to love that thing. I have to make a trip to MN at Christmas to pick up mine from Grampa now that I'm back from overseas. My kid is going to drive it when he turns 16 (if I'll give it up). I'm excited to hear that you've got it up and running!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
i am having a problem with the ignition timing. just in case i dont get it fixed on my own it would be cool if i could get some recommendations. the biggest thing is that i cant figure out where the rotor should be set. the manual says that the rotor should be lined up with the #1 lug. i tried that and it did not work. i am worried that if i keep trying it over and over that it will mean that i am clinically insane smile. any way, thanks for your help.

When you "line it up with the number 1 plug", do you point the rotor literally at the number one plug, or do you trace the number one plug on the inside of the ignition cap and point the rotor to that node?

How are you determining what position the crankshaft is in? I had a demon of a time getting my old '86 timed at first until I remarked the front pulley for TDC. It had slipped and was off by a couple degrees...

to both of you i did trace to the node and i used the timing mark on the cam gear. the root of the problem is that i had the cam 180 degrees out so i just adjusted the distributor to match. any way, its running really well so its all good. thanks for your help though. you guys rock. we leave on wednesday.

thanks for the encouragement but now the trooper has a different problem. maybe you guys can help. at about 2500 RPM and up the engine has a problem making power. it will coast at that speed just fine but if you give it any extra gas it falls on its face and starts missing. do you have any suggestions? also i am getting a noise coming from the back of the car when the axle is under stress like on a hill or when the weight comes back down on the springs after a bump.
along with all that i would like to ask an honest question, am i going to have to put this much work in to this car all the time or after i get it sorted out will it be a reliable car for a while? i can not afford this. just wondering. thanks
