moab....moab. Moab........MOAB! we are finally here. we got in to town at about 9:30 last night and we ended up spending the night in a hostil. it is actually pretty cool. on the way here we had to drive through about 60 miles of snow some of which was about six inches deep. this being my first time in the snow i stayed on the safe side and only drifted twice. has any one else noticed that a trooper can actually drift really well on snow and loose gravel? it is also really easy to control mid drift. i guess that it would be since the car i learned to drift first was a two door geo tracker <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. any way, i dont have any pictures yet but i will upload some as soon as i do. by the way, the canoe and kayaks are in case we flip over in to a lake <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. more later.
1988 isuzu trooper LS 2.6 manual the cool thing about owning a rare car is that someone else thinks its cool too.

Many of us have been to Moab numerous times (the annual Isuzu get-together in mid-May), so just let us know if you want suggestions for trails. And if you are willing to spring for the Charles Wells' guidebook to Moab trails, it is VERY helpful out there.

we did do some good trail riding today but the internet that we have is to slow to uplaod pics. we went about a mile to a mile and a half down the kane creek trail. when i get a better hook up then some of you will probably be able to tell how far we went. we have video too so that will be cool.

Kane Creek is a very cool trail, but you might have trouble getting across some of those little rockpiles without a locker or someone to tug you. I led a group on that trail in May, which included a pretty stock 1st gen Trooper (he might have had slightly larger tires). We all made it through, but a few folks had to be tugged a time or two. Everybody enjoyed it immensely. Also, watch for flash floods (no joke).
How difficult do you want to get?
You could probably run Fins 'n Things, sort of a wheeling playground with lots of steep ups and downs (tie everything down first). I would love to see pics of a Trooper with kayaks on the roof doing that one.
For more of a touring run, Schafer (sp?) Trail has an awesome view along the rim, then a cool switchback road down the cliff.
The more I think about it the more there is to do there. There are many, many trails in the area. Definitely get the Wells book! It is widely available out there. If you can get the spiral bound version, it is a little more $ but easier to use.
A couple of day hikes I have enjoyed are the Fisher Tower trail and Negro Bill Canyon is another cool hike that is very different from Fisher.
Let us know what you are interested in and we can come up with a bunch more easily.

We tried to run kane creek from both ends. we went backwards first. unfortunately we got a late start that day and only went in about two miles or less. here are some pics. [img][image] http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv25/SAW32rally/kanecreek058.jpg[/img][/image] this is right after the drivers side running board hit the rock because my minions did an inadequate job stacking rocks. we ended up stopping at the really big hill. if you have been there then you know what i am talking about. if not, then just picture something that you wouldn't think that a stock trooper could make it up and then multiply it by ten. i actually had a good route planed but we only had about three hours before dark and it would have been lots of rock stacking and a lot of time so we turned around. on the way back i was in a hurry so we had to do some jacking and rock stacking to clear the t-case skid plate after i skillfully dropped it down on a rock. dose any one else wish that isuzu had put that somewhere else ? any way, when i have a better connection i will post the videos. i have to worn you, they are really long and have lots of time just trying to figure out how to do the thing so have fun. i think that it is an over reaction to all the five second utube videos that piss me off <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. any way, more later.

Sheet metal doesn't really do anything anyway...
If by the "big hill" you mean the long ledge climb in the canyon (certainly the longest obstacle on Kane Creek), I was very proud that we got everybody in our group up that hill without a strap, and very little stacking either. That includes the open/open 1st gen Trooper like yours...minus the boats. But yes, it took a while trying to find the right lines to keep at least 3 wheels on the ground at all times. That's part of the fun!
Just be careful with your throttle control, if you break a CV it will be a loooong day trying to get out of there in 2WD...or better yet find someone to wheel with.
Speaking of which, there is a Vehicross owner in Moab, at least he was living there in May. He met us on the trail after he got off work...not sure how you could track him down though. He works at the big uranium tailings pile at the north end of town.
