Just be patient, man. Watch Auto Trader and Craigslist like a hawk. When I lived in Corvallis, I only saw two of them come up for sale within 250 miles during the 2 years I was in school there. You should be in better shape in PDX. Keep your hopes up, and keep lookin'!

That's funny, FE. You're right, though. There were pretty much two types of vehicles in that town. The hybrid/super econoboxes and the 4 wheelers. I miss that place...
Sky, keep us posted on what you find.

I just bought a 89 Mitsubishi Montero in Hillsboro for $1000.00 last friday. Great buy. I found it on Craigs List and met up with the owner and bought it on the spot. Pretty satisified with the purchase. Overall great condition and great running order. Found a slight problem with the Tranny.

I hope you can find one now that alot of folks have traded some decent stock vehicles in for the REDICULOUS cash 4 clunkers program. I know of 3 very good condition GEN I's in my town that just got sent to the chopping block. It is a shame. I used to be big into FJ40 Land Cruisers, the more uncommon they became the more valuable they were and are. Same for parts.
I hope you can find a good one in your price range. I see alot of fluctuation in price range on these vehicles, I think it just depends what region you are in and how common you come across them. I had a great condition stock 91 LWB LS for a while and I sold it in Idaho for $3,500 a year or so ago. It only had 130K miles on it. I kind of regretted selling so I bought another 89 3.0 V6 2 door that I found on Autotrader for around $2,500 (130K miles, one owner) Both of these vehicles have been in excellent shape mechanical, body, interior, etc.
I guess my point in telling you this is 1) good condition vehicles are getting harder to find 2) KBB doesn't always apply. The vehicle is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. 3) be patient and if you see one that is priced higher than 2K consider it, it might be worth the few extra hundred bucks to get a hassle free Montero. All that said, I've seen decent 90+ LWB vehicles with a bad engine for next to free. If it was well taken care of, that might be a good way to go. Good luck with your search.

Pretty satisified with the purchase. Overall great condition and great running order. Found a slight problem with the Tranny. Hey Jay Ayala, was that the Silver (grey) one?? I saw it but was scared of the trans issues. Tell me (us) what condition your machine is in, miliage and what the seller felt was wrong with it. Then please tell us what you discovered and how you fixed or plan on fixing it. Great score, I'm glad for you! I hope it turns out awesome. My situation has changed slightly. My company is cutting hours and the one vehicle I need to get back and forth developed an issue. So now I have no extra money to play with...But this lack of funds will be a short term set back. I will keep my eyes peeled for a great deal. Once I get the cash I'll know what to look for thanks to this GREAT forum and the AWESOME MONTERO FANS!! I have learned more than I could hope. Keep the good info flowing. Thanks Folks.
