Thanks, that site is great, I used the VIN's and I checked on most of the parts for the timing belt and it appears that the cam gears are the same, but the belts, and tensioners are in-fact different, I briefly looked at the water pumps, but I already know they can be different depending on whether you have the oil cooler or not.
Since I know that the parts are different, my question is still, has anyone swapped the later for the early style. My research seems to point to the only block/head difference being that they added a whole in the later model heads to accommodate the new style tensioner. That being said, if I were to go to a parts supplier like 1sttoyota or others and order all of the timing components as if I were simply doing the timing belt on the 1990 but installed all of that onto the 1993 block, that should work, right. I have the block to the point where I am ready to start putting shiny new stuff back on, so I'd appreciate any input.
If anyone knows a good toyota service/tech department that I could call and ask, I would gladly do so.
Oh and I have already downloaded most of the 1993 manual and was actually looking at that manuals link and thinking about getting the two day membership to get some of the wiring diagrams. Does anyone know if they have a resource like that for 1st gen 4Runners, I got an 1988 that I would love to get some tech info for.
