I am considering pulling the seats out of a late 90's Montero sport in the local yard that was turned in for the CFC progam and installing them in my 89 Gen 1 SWB...Not sure how difficult this will be. I want to retain the Gen 1 bases for the Bounce on the drivers side and the tilt for the passenger side. I know some of you guys have swapped in Starion and other seats. Is the Mitsu seat to mount fairly standard? TIA..

They are the same width, i have my genII seats on GenI frames. you will have to drill new holes for either the front or back holes into your frame so you can hit the nuts welded onto the seat. I can't say for sure that genII and Sport seats are the same though.

Justice,

Check with CAP510. He ran a gen I seat for a while in his Gen II. He had to mod it to fit. Sorry. I don't recall the details.

Let me know if you need his contact info or send me yours and I'll forward it to him since he's been busy and has recently had some challenges accessing the wire.

On a stupid impulse I bought a set of M.S. seat on fleabay(that was before wire was around)
They were too wide. I have '96 Gen 2 seats in right now. They are wider at the top than the gen 1s but not a real problem.
Gen 2s are flat on the bottom of the seat so fit right on the gen 1 frame after you unbolt the gen 2 mount. You only need to drill 2 holes on the gen 1 sliders, the gen 2 seats are 1/2" shorter or <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />longer.
The M.S. seats have a "staggered" mount on the different level floor, like the gen 2, only you would have to grind the mount off instead of unbolt it like you do with gen 2 seats. Then I'm not sure if you have enough lip to drill holes in or if it gives you the flat bottom you need
In frustration I traded them to a yard for some fair gen 1 seats just to get them out of my small apt.
Good luck...

My friend has a Hyundai Tiburon and men those are some nice seats. I have no clue if they will fit or the mods necesary to make them fit but I will love to have a pair of those.

There is a pair of Starion seats for sale nearby, I think I am going to check them out since I think that someone here went that route and little mods were needed. Who was it?

Also look at some VW GTI seats. I can't think of the user right now, but he installed a set in that amazing blue Gen 1 convertible he restored in Norway.

That'd be Nitteburg.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
