The only people that I ever honor are those in my family and those who actually risked their lives to do something good. It may be saving someone as a civilian or fighting in a war to defend freedom.
Politicans don't deserve any additional honor above and beyond any other average person. That's exactly what this country was founded on. Our founders...especially Washington, knew that people who gain power ultimately will use it to their own benefit, because it's human nature. Ultimately, politicans are evil people, just like everyone else and that's exactly why, not only should their own power be limited, but so should the honor of their name.
Politicans should serve for a short period of time, then dissappear back into society. A politican that is born and then raised for that position and then excersizes that power for half a century, is not a man of honor. That is a man who goes against everything this country stood far.
I don't wish death on anyone. But if we are honest, most of us could care about the dead neighbor down the street that we've never met. And I say the same about this man. He was nothing more than a fallible, privaged man who was given the oppertunity to enjoy a life of power for a very long time. And less anyone thing my opinion is political, I would say the exact same thing about Reagan, FDR and JFK and even Lincoln. Except that a few of those men actually served in battle and that elevates them to a level of an honored war vetran, but nothing more.
Just my opinion. I had to give one last one.
Well stated Brain and I agree with you.
