Hello all --

I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread going listing part numbers and parts sources for these engines, as there are now a few members who own them. If you have any information, please add a response. I will add what I've got in the next day or so, as soon as I can dig it up.

The clutch kit mentioned in the last post does not include a pilot bearing. In replacing my clutch, I found that the 4JB1-T pilot and throwout bearings are the same as those used on the 4ZE1 gas engine.

NAPA had the pilot bearing for $3.29 (1988 Isuzu Trooper was the model I gave them).

I may be late to the party on this one, but I just checked rockauto.com and the 1988 Trooper category now has the 4JB1 listed! Unless I am missing something, all sorts of parts are now easily obtained.

Anyone have thoughts/confirmation on this?

EDIT: It looks like they want to charge international shipping when checking out, so it may or may not be a cheaper alternative to ordering from an overseas vendor. The clutch I ordered from Oz would have been about the same price, either way - and it seems like the Oz unit is heavier-duty.

The 4JB1 clutch slave cylinder can be rebuilt using the kit for the 4ZE1 (gasoline) engine - I ordered the kit for a 1988 Trooper.

The piston is the same, but the diesel spring is heavier so I reused it. The aftermarket rubber boot fit, too.

The issue is that the castings are different. Innards are mostly the same.

i think that you could use the 2.8 rodeo clutch since it uses the MUA tranny, and even upgrade to the 3.1 rodeo clutch since it is an upgrade that many rodeo offroaders use. if/when i need to replace this aussie one, ill try the 91-91 rodeo 3.1 clutch.

Rockauto seems to be able to get some of the parts above from Europe - shipping is expensive, but searching by part number allowed me to add both a timing belt and water pump to my cart.

I should also add that the power steering & AC belt is the same as the one used on the 2.2l C223 diesel (1986 Trooper diesel).
