you could put them in a plexy glass case so you could see them in the mirror <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />. but really though, it could work to have them in the back. it would be cool to turn your back side windows in to intercooler scoops <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

Hey Steve, this is maTT. Didn't know you had an old Montero too!
So the 3.5 Montero will drop in without oil pan and coolant plumbing issues? That's great. Seems like a decent route would be to drop that in, work out all the kinks, and then TT it down the road.
I keep going back and forth between the 3.0TT and the 3.5. Mainly because I've never actually seen a 3.5 in a running Montero. Decisions decisions...

Decisions decisions... i honestly do not know if it will fit without issues. i wouldnt expect there to be any issues though. you will have to use the 74 pan obviously. ill be looking for another SR shortly but if i cant find one for a reasonable price im yanking the SOHC out of my SWB and will get started on the swap. i thought about going the TT route long ago but thought about it more and decided that ill be going with an eaton blower. have an M112 sitting here and can get M90s pretty easily.

I'd think you could do a pretty good job of test measuring, off the stock 3.0, if you do this first. Measure the head rise off the block of any dohc head and add the 19mm of extra deck height on the 3.5/3.8 block. Measure that dimension off the block deck (top of exh mani) of the stock 3.0. Losing the big old hunky vac brake booster with a hydroboost PB booster frees up a lot of room on the dside.
I don't think engine height is a factor if you use the 3.5dohc intake with maybe an enlarged TB bore. Can somebody aim me at a diagram of the tt exhaust mani/turbo mounting?

Body Damage is Cool

Just wanted to say hello to another monty owner just down the street. I have worked on a few stealth SOHC (nephew had one) (niece has one) I would think straight TT swap would be best. As long as you have some Fabbing skills. Put in 2 inch body lift for clearance issues. Would be very tight. I am not half bad with wrench a would love to help ya out when you get started. I have always wanted to put a diesel into a monty- But I don't have access or money to do such a thing right now.

Sounds good! I can always use an extra hand Where abouts do you live? We should all get together sometime for dinner or mudd'n! I need to get a measurement on the TT oil pan and see if it would fit in there with a 2" or 3" body lift. If it does, the rest is fairly "easy" to fab up! I've also thought about running a na 10:1 3000GT engine and twin turboing it. That may or may not be cheaper depending on how much luck I have finding a donor car.

Won't the truck pan and oil pickup bolt on easier than doing a body lift?

sump on the FWD pans will in no way fit in the truck. youre going to have to modify the truck pan for oil returns.
youll likely be fine at low power on the NA block but i wasted the center mains on an NA in my 97 with 16 psi on E85/DR650s theres a thread on it here with pics. either crank whip (1G na with the cast crank) or pushed the girdle off the block.
