Thanks for the correction, Charlie - I thought there was one variant, but I guess not.

Just for a bit of in depth info on turbos, compound, sequential & VNT/VGT, go to www.superturbodiesel.com It's all about bombing 617 Merc diesels, but alot of GREAT info.
Even an attempt of using the HE341 VGT Holsett from the 260 ISB Cummins on a 617.925 engine, if that's not insane....

I personally like the VGT/VNT setups. The unie from the Diesel Liberty should be quite close to our engine needs.

Mbrennon, welcome.... I'm in Port Charlotte. If ya want a tour of Musclecar City, PM me.

I thought I had seen a 3.0L DOHC 24v Montero Sport somewhere - is this wrong, or were they available in the UK?:

web page

If it's a longitudinal mount, and DOHC, you should be able to get the intake from the UK.

Where do you 2.6T guys put the intercooler?

Here's mine using Quest I/C but with the els reworked a little. I was stupid and should have just done the refitting with 2", as it has 2" hard pipes now. I made the riser-brackets you see to meet the stock tabs. The brackets are the bolted into existing threaded holes in the frame horns. I also have a Gen I V6 front skid. (Has a mesh opening at the top, like a Gen II, for air flow.)

That is a SOHC 24V engine. The DOHC was out of production in 2002 with engineering going towards the Beta series engines.

The intake is easy, just flip the turbo intake around or take your selection from most any intake style you want, Most all the 24V uppers interchange. The 3.5 DOHC has larger ports but most of the others are the same right up through the 3.8.

My IC is mounted with the lower edge flush with the boom of the apron. I had a winch mounted in the space below that. You might consider an NPR or later EVO intercooler if you are going to use a 3.5 in there.

What about converting to a hydroboost brake booster system and getting a lot of mounting cubic inches out of the dside underhood? I still like the one big turbo idea, unless the exh path on the crossover is too long.

Since all the load the intercooler will see will be short bursts (I wonder how long it takes a TT Monstero to get to, oh, 140ish...), why not go water air and save that space, too. Or since you have all that room for tanks, methanol/water injection.

The 3.5 intake is a two path for helmholz tuning at both low and high rpms, with a vac actuated changeover flapper. If you boost it, I'd just remove the 6 little throttle plates and the shaft, and seal the shaft holes on each end. I think you would still get ram tuning at the two ranges, just lower in amplitude, on top of the boost. free power.

Mitsu only used dohc heads because they already had them ready for the 3.0tt 24v, and the sohc24v heads were not ready yet. As soon as they had the sohc's ready, they used them on everything. I can't remember if the 3000 kept the dohc's on the 3.0 variant or not. You'd know better than me...

Unless the cam timing/lift is different, the only advantage I see to a dohc over an sohc with the same size/count of valves, is the lower mass in the valve train minus the rockers. Friction in the dohc may be higher (do they have roller followers? do the sohc's have roller rockers?).

Does the 3tt motor electronically control the boost?

the 3/s used DOHC for its entire life except for base model stealths and 97-99 base model 3000s. doing a rwd DOHC will be slightly difficult since there are no bolt on RWD configuration water crossovers for the DOHC heads. the 3.5 crossover is slightly longer to compensate for the taller deck height. IIRC the SOHC uses a different bolt pattern. this could be fixed by hacking up an NA 3s crossover and a DOHC 74 crossover then welding. (personally this is why im going DOHC 74 in mine. everything is already setup for RWD)

the DOHC 6G74 found in the montero are NA heads from the 3s. personally i want to put a set of TTs on and see how they work out (i would have done it but at the time didnt have any 2G TT heads lying around).

as for advantage....im 99% sure even the NA DOHC heads flow better than the newer SOHC 24v heads. the TT dohc heads would be a significant improvement

I know that the 3.5sohc poser is down from the 3.5sohc. This would suggest you were right on flow. IIRC, the dohc was 214hp, and the sohc was like 204.
