Man , your not messin' around,,,great truck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />.
Everbody look at your axle flanges and see if the 9 and 9.5 both have "80" on them...
Do all 9" and 9.5" have a different driveshaft end?
Or,,,maybe there is another way to tell which axle he has.
You can tell him and me cause I'b like to know, too.

How about tackling it from another end. I always thought it was possible to to reline brake shoes. Any place out there still do that? No reason not to use riveted linings, either, since it's a grab and hold brake mostly.
I'm still trying to figure out how Lester's wore out. Unless they were almost too tight and dragging.
Lester (how ya been, friend?), have you actually eyeballed the shoes, or just inferred "worn out" from lever stroke length?
Not responsible for advice not taken...

Those are awesome Lester. I'm going to check to see if we can get them here in the States. Frank, I was just tryin to be cooler than I normally am.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'm thinkin along the same lines as Eddy. Unless you're using the E brake to slow yourself, I can't see how it would wear out, if properly adjusted of course.
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

All's well. Recently just changed out my stock Starion oil cooler lines cos one of them was leaking. Planning for a top end overhaul but don't have a time line yet.
2 weeks back, there was a leak with one end of the axle shaft. Got it out changed the seal and discovered that the brake shoes were near to reaching the rivets. Thought I had better get them changed.
How are things on your end? All well...?

I think the 9.5" has 81 and 82 on the ends.

Unless you're using the E brake to slow yourself, I use mine all the time when coming off a steep down hill while wheeling.

When I got the axle, the wear is already at the rivets.It's been like that for the last 4 years. Tot I will get them changed in case my drum get scrapped by the rivet and worst damage occurs.
Besides, I dare not adjust the shoes too near to the drum surface in case there might be any rubbing. I am on almost 7 to 8 clicks to engage a full lock. At full lock, there is still slight movement.

Hi Charlie
With regards to the parking shoes for the locker axle, I am still unsuccessful in getting the correct set. I ordered a set from Carparts.com and they turned out to be for the stock drum axle.
Can anyone please point me to the correct source for these pads? Thanks.

Hey Lester, that hood with the scoop is that an aftermarket or was it oem with your rig. Javy
88 red Montero with the Dakar Special Edition decals, 438,000 miles (As of 7/23/2012) some occational blue puffing but still strong and counting!!! I am going ppsshhh (turbo), Stay tuned =) ...
