Last night I started on UCA project My idea was to crank the bars untill the front upper bump stop made contact,,,then swap the arms. Then I went in to read my FSM for the directions on T-bars. It said losen the bars all the way before changing UCAs. So if I don't follow directions ( I try not to) will I not be able to get it apart ,or have something spring up and break my jaw???
I'd wanted to this measurement to make both sides equal as my fenders are not real good to gauge a measurement from.

I pulled a Tbar with full tension still on it. after my ears stopped ringing I put it back and never touched them again after reindexing the bars.

The TB's are connected to the lower control arm, so changing the UCA'a should not require loosenning the TB's. I've done it both ways and either will work.
With the car on jack stands, use a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it so as to get UCA disconnected and reconnected.
Then crank your TB's.

I won't tell you to try it. But it was one of my early day screw ups. I removed the bolt and tapped the bar with the hammer.

I lost muscle control for about 5 mins... sat in my chair stupified.

Thanks for all the horror stories. I don't feel so bad now, I though I was the only one that had accidents . Not sure if I'm gonna be able to work anymore tonight after reading this, the boys are hiding. On the lighter side , how far can you crank the bars without making it undrivable or breaking something. I know this has been discussed here and there and somewhere else on here,,,but some suggestion on my situation would be appreciated. Mines is also a D.D., no crawling , bad roads deep snow...way far back of beyond camping... I'm just trying to even it out some because of the OME 910s on this SWB. I've already trimmed the gen 2 bump stops so at this late hour I'm not really sure what to measure from. I think as goofy as I've been lately I'm gonna losen the tension on those T- bars.

Hello
I'm in the middle of changing Gen II UCA
So far so good, no injuries.
But I loosend the T-bars complitly before undoing the old UCA
The plan is to adjust them to the back end with LWB leafs (the truck is SWB)
So to my question
How many shims do you guys normaly put in to get the camber to about 0?
