I have finally tracked down my mystery oil leak. Oil is leaking out from where the vacuum pump meets the alternator.

There is a small O ring that sits between the two surfaces and it needs to be replaced. I have tried using a imperial o ring that is close to the same size and it didn't work. I then tried silicon and it didn't work. Now I'm desperate and will have to go to Mitsubishi to get the correct part. This is my last resort! I get nothing but greef when I go to the dealership looking for these types of small things. They don't make any money of JDM stuff so I understand.

Here is my problem... What part do I order? Is there a part number for just the "o" ring? (preferably a north American part number) Is there re-build kit? Does a ranger or D50 have a similar vacuum pump for reference? Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

If this doesn't work I'm going to go nuts and install a hydro master cylinder from an minivan to cover my braking duties and use a ARB air locker pump to do my other vacuum duties. Anyone knows me knows I can't handle that level of customization and will eventually go insane so any parts numbers or suggestions of where to find parts numbers would be great!

Thanks for any help or hints... or for donating (or selling) an unused, un-leaking alternator/vacuum pump combo.

Is there a hydraulic rebuild shop in your area? Ask them if so.

[censored] Motorcycle shop ..[censored] Earth moving equipment shop ... Mechanics have a "rat hole" of o-rings someware in the shop if you can get to them it may be hiding there ...

Man people just never understand what there getting into before thay start a swap .. Sorry on the troubles ..

I have an imperial O-ring in my water pipe from the water-pump. I went one thickness size larger, same diameter. it was a tight fit but it is working good...I just used lots of grease so it wouldn't roll off as I slid the water-pump onto the pipe.

Keep looking for a metric O-ring. I can guarantee you it isn't an odd "dealer item only" size. bearing shops carry all sorts of seals/o-rings, if they don't have the size you need they can definitely get it.

It already has an imperial one, but I'll try one size larger since they're easy to come by and I can have the truck apart and together in an hour or two. I work all week so I won't be able to make it to a bearing shop or any of the similar so it'll have to do for now. While I have it apart (this time) I'll take all the measurements.

As for a doing a swap... My '91 Pajero is all stock and humming along very nicely. I just can't get JDM caps running on my PC yet so I have to bumb parts numbers off my friends.

I don't get the swap statement from haztoys either.

Eh, we're Canadians, we're use to people making fun of us. I'll write an angry letter after seal hunting season is over (for you Phil).

Last night I had a very close look at my leak. It's hard to say for sure but it appears that my silicon/imperial 'o' ring fix worked for the most part but there is just one area to the side where it is leaking. Weird? At any rate, I'm going to pull it apart (yet again) tonight and inspect the two surfaces where they meet. I wonder if the alternar is cracked, or munged in any way. I'm also going to inpect the shaft and seal coming out of the alternator. The source of the leak looks like it may be from inside the alternator.

Vacume pumps are stupid! Arg! I guess on VW deisels the vacume pump sits where the distributer cap would normal sit if it where a NA setup. For once in the history of VW, they did something SMRT.
