Hypothetically speaking, who would know? Of course, I'm not suggesting anyone does anything illegal.

Reuben,

I would know. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

While I'm all for preserving these Gen1 trucks, they're not worth going to jail over - or causing trouble for the business. I have to personally sign a government form on each of these vehicles that states I will abide by the rules. If I err at all, it will certainly be on the side of caution.

To me, Right is Right, Wrong is Wrong - and there's no gray area at all.... can't help it.... I was raised that way and it stuck. I still remember the poem by Grantland Rice (Atlanta Journal-Constitution sportswriter) that my father hung over the toilet in the mensroom of his hardware store where I worked as a kid - I'm sure he put it there for me to read every time I visited the loo:

Quote
For when the One Great Scorer comes
To write against your name,
He marks-not that you won or lost-
But how you played the game.

Grantland Rice, "Alumunus Football," Only the Brave and Other Poems, p. 144 (1941)

What happen to these C4C vehicles? are they crushed or are they taken to a JY to be parted out? Is everything available but the engine? or is it also available? I know their internals are trashed but accesories -plenum, head covers etc..- are still usable.
What happen to these?

Some dealers will take them to a shredder and those will be immediately crushed and shredded. Other dealers will sell them to a parts yard where everything but the engine will be removed for parts inventory. Those we buy are displayed on a DIY yard where the customer can remove and purchase what he wants. Everything except the engine internal parts and block are for sale - but only as individual parts and definitely not as a complete unit.

It is against federal law to sell the block. The rest of the engine's internal parts are ruined by the sodium silicate process used to seize the engine.

I'm not sure when I'll put this truck on the yard - maybe before the weekend, maybe not - but I don't want to do it until I get a legal opinion on my questions.

Here, my neighbor is pulling the VIN tag and the engine from the C4C's and putting it out for parts, the 120/180 day grace period on destroying is longer than parts last on most of his iron, the core guys and the people like "us" strip them down fast. He has a crusher on site and a monster shredder close by, with the price of iron, he's not letting ANYTHING sit for long... He's infamous since he shredded about 50 corvairs of various kinds a while back.

I do the same. I have a crusher on site and a shredder nearby - not much sits on the yard for more than 60-90 days.

I love Pull-a-parts! My buddies and I use to spend all day there just looking and finding cool stuff. Very cheap entertainment for $1!

They're not franchised businesses - family owned - not my family.
