I don't believe it has anything to do with being 'green'. It's all about the economy. If the government were really worried about cars and carbon footprints they would be hassling the car makers to produce more efficient vehicles. They already know how to. They've been selling them in Europe for decades That Monty probably did close to 20mpg. What if the guy who traded it for a huge pick-up that does 15mpg?! This 'program' is sad really and an insult to our intelligence. Someone said the repo man will be busy and I agree

It looks just like mine. I wish I had it for the 200 parts I need. Don't plan to be in Cola any time soon though.
I think CFC is bad news. It's like, "Hey, let's fix our economy in recession by enticing people to get deeper in debt and trade in their already paid for cars."
I'm keeping mine until it will barely run. Then I'll take it out to uwharrie and roll it over on one of those difficult spots I never had the guts to try before. Of course with my luck it would probably just drive right through without flipping.

Real purpose was to move cars, yes. But the main "justification" for taking advantage of the program was to trade in your crappy mileage outdated relic for something new that is lean and green.
Or so I read it all to be...

There'll probably be quite a few Monteros that show up in the C4C deals - and some will be parted out. It's an opportunity to hoard parts from running trucks - for those so inclined. After this, there will be far fewer Monteros around, so now is the time to go hunting.

I guess I wasn't paying attention as I didn't even think about going to the yards now that all these CFC cars are in. I'll have to check out what a Sport rear, V6 brakes, etc will run me

I haven't found any yards in this region that are getting C4Cs. Do they go to autions are something first and local yards are outbid or what?

Some go to auctions, some go to parts yards and some go directly to the shredder. It's up to the dealer where he dumps them..... but the smart dealers will take them to someone who has at least a crusher - and who will offer him indemnification from further liability..... otherwise, the dealer may remain on the hook for disposal responsibility if the business where he takes it doesn't comply with federal rules.

This '87 Raider came in today - not a cash for clunkers, but definitely a clunker: Frank
