I have located my fan blower motor and the resistor. How do I determine whether my resistor is shot or my blower motor is shot? Can I simply hook the fan directly to the battery to see if it goes on? I know, I know, this is some basic stuff, but I'm brutal with electrical issues. A resistor is $5o, and a new blower motor is $150. Perhaps this is worth a drive to the wreckers to find a used one.

Yes. Test the resistor pack with an ohmmeter.

It's Prob the motor. Usually the resistor packs only are in use on the lower speeds. MAX fan is straight 12 volts.

You can prob remove your blower, and free up the bearings, or put some new brushes in the motor. Not really much to go wrong.

Good luck finding brushes. I got a junk yard one for 20 bucks. An alternator rebuild place gave me some brushes that will posibly work if I sand them down to size. Haven't gotten around to it.

UPDATE:

I just spent many hours trying to figure out what the problem was. Still haven't solved it. The resistor had a coil springy looking thing on it that was broken, so I replaced the resistor. That was $40. Still no blower fan. I connected the blower fan directly to the battery, and it whirled away. Ok, great, so now what. I decided to check out the heater control unit and noticed something interesting. I noticed that my AC (air conditioning light wasn't illuminating. It seems as though there is no power going to the heater / AC contol unit. I read through the manual hoping there would be a fuse somewhere besides the fuse panel, but I couldn't find one. The only fuse I could find on the fuse panel that was related was a "heater" fuse. Obviously I checked it and it was fine.

So how do I locate the wire that powers the heater control unit in the dash? Is there a fuse for this?
