My 84 22r timing jumped (guides was broke, should of changed them long time ago) so I bought a good 86 22r and found the back rocker assembly that holds both shafts together broke in half.I'm going to replace just that piece that's broke and use my existing rockers and shafts.
My question, what would be the best way to take out the head bolts and re-install the rocker assembly without damaging the head gasket? I'm going to gamble and try it.
Any advice would be great and that's for all the tips I've read over the last 6 months. You guys ROCK!!!!!

Usually drain coolant and oil, let drain over night, then remove the head bolts and rockers is what I have heard.

PS (this works).
With valve cover off, before you start loosening those bolts, wrap a ratchet strap from center of one side of head, down below oil pan or axle, up to other side of head in the center. Ratchet that baby down real tight. That will keep the head gasket squeezed between the block and head to keep from damaging the existing gasket. Sometimes the head will want to seperate otherwise.
