Kind of the reason I had asked was to bring you to discover these have an asymmetric pattern. I look at two errors that are easy to make, one as I did thinking it was symmetrical and drilling the most important hole wrong or making a reversed adapter.
I know now that you won't F'up your plate.

I kinda figured that was the reason, and I thank you for bringing it up. I honestly never noticed it until I looked for it, but it explains why my preliminary caliper measurements using the dowels weren't worth a toad fart...

I'm milling the first one out of particle board anyways, cheaper than aluminum or steel, and should be good for a sanity check/fastener check.

One nice thing is that the V5MT1 clutch housing and the Benz's intermediate plate both come off, so I can physically place one on top of the other for a sanity check.

Search has yet to bring up what you swapped that had a 6g72 pattern... I'm going to the 6g72 forum next...

I first setup a Starion gearbox behind a 6G72,
[Linked Image]
I did not like the compromised starter mounting so I changed to a late Mazda RX7,
[Linked Image]
This is shown with a B2600 tail housing but that has been changed to a modified RX7 housing that moves the shifter way forwards.
Here is the plate,
[Linked Image]
This plate was hand measured"My last" I used an aluminum tube that clamped in the main bearings and passed through into the gearbox to line them up. The old way of doing these.

Nice! Always fun to see things that should never work together working together smile

The aluminum tube in the main bearings is a new one to me, guess if you've got it torn down for a rebuild anyways it makes sense to do it that way.

Not sure how my dad made the original plate, but I know he used the intermediate plate from the Benz and the starter plate from the KM145 to get the paterns.
I was still stuck in that overpriced taxpayer funded mandatory daycare called highschool when he made it.

How's the twin disk clutch setup working, I take it the engine picks up rpm quicker with the reduction in rotating mass?

Most all of my conversions have been done with a mandrel through the bearings. Been doing it this way since the 70s. Many of the swaps involved taking apart engines and gearboxes that did not need to come apart. Real PIA. But labor used to be cheap.
It was only a year ago that I realized I could use my milling machine to measure with. Wish I had a fancier way but my accuracy has improved a bunch.

The small multiplate clutches hold allot of power and the engine is real snappy. They work real nice in the cars I build.

That clutch is a 140mm or 5¢" triple plate Quarter Master brand. This one has enough holding power for a generous turbo setup but will only have to live behind 280Hp or so in a 2200# car. Pretty easy life depending on the driver working the pedals.

Took 4 days to get this far because of interruptions, but took a month to perfect the design. smile

It's not completely finished yet, I still have to turn snap-ring grooves in the inner bore to hold the pilot bearing in place, but that has to wait till I can bolt the flywheel on and do a sanity check on the dimensions.

[Linked Image]

There's some visible chatter marks on the one face because of some resonance of the boring bar, but other than that it's well within tolerance, and everything should be good.

It's such an amazing feeling to hold something that 4 days earlier was just a cad drawing, and a few weeks earlier was just a vision in my minds eye.

Now to test it on the 616 and wait for my flywheel bolts to come in....

I tried a file and chisel at first, but found that it was too boring for my attention spa OOHH! LOOK! SQUIRREL!.
