Wow, a year has passed...

The truck's sat unchanged for most of it, found out the frame was uber-shot and went looking for another one. Found a V6 MightyMax in Texas this past August and had it brought up here, currently making the adapter plate to fit the Benz to the V5MT1.

Build log for the new truck is here.

I've also got some cad drawings of the V5MT1 bolt pattern I'll be cleaning up and letting wild once I get the plate done.

For now, here's some CAD porn.

Body Damage is Cool
goiong back to the alternator, somebody figured out a 100 amp out of an Altima or something like that. that was in the last couple of weeks.

Nice! Thank's for the tip!

Just found out a Bosch AL129X is a direct fit for the Benz engine, and is 115A. Might go with that if it's cheaper...

Walt,
When you CMM the plate to get the hole locations how did you index from the crank center?

For the Mitsu, since I have/had the whole clutch housing off the trans, I used the throwout guide tube to find crank center and sanity checked it with verniers on the 6G72 block, as well as with the bell pattern, since the main holes are verticaly symetric. Everything checked out to within a thou, so it's all good there. My actual allignment to constrain everything while probing was based on a construction line between the top 2 housing holes.

For the benz, I used the circular machined groove in the plate since it's concentric with the crank. I also double checked with the engine block.

Do your measurements show the two main dowel pin locations to be asymmetrical on the Mitsu bell?

Near as I can tell, everything is symmetric along the y axis on the Mitsubishi pattern except the obvious things like the clutch slave and starter holes.
I'll re-check the capture to be sure.

I'll be a monkeys relative, the drivers side(clutch cylinder side) is a hair under 5mm(4.9905)higher up, and about .5mm(0.5834) further from the crank center...

The rest is all symmetric within .1mm

I'll cross-check with the probe-out from the tranny side of the clutch housing, since that has the input shaft seal bore readily accessible...

hmmm....

Yup, the first adapter plate I made was all F'ed up since I presumed it was symmetrical. Plate looks neat hanging on the wall.
Your measurements are far more accurate than mine are. I now am using the DRO on my milling machine that has greatly improved my measuring but you have the real tools to do it right.

I've been using the cmm data in all my cad stuff, so I never noticed that the one hole was up a bit higher, since I never had to lay anything pertaining to the patterns out...

I also have to drag the damn housing back in, since I forgot to get the motor-side view of the 4 bolt holes that hold the clutch housing on the trans, and I forgot the pilot shaft seal bore, which is the entire reason why I probed the back side of the housing to begin with... Oy Vey...

Believe me, I'll be sharing once I know it's all correct, I just cant stomach the idea of someone making a $200 wall hanging because I messed something up... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Forgive the newb, but what did you mate the trans with? I'll hunt the search feature in the meantime...
